History

Our Beginnings

CrossFit Bellevue was started by a group of former Special Operation Warrior’s who moved to the Seattle area to participate on a security detail for a high net worth family. We were all used to the camaraderie our former units possessed. Our camaraderie was built on hard work and a desire to be the absolute best operators we could be. We all knew that our weapons, vehicles and training were all useless if our bodies failed us. The first few years on the detail were extremely busy and most of us were removed from the shape we were used to being in and the workout schedule we had been accustomed too. We missed working hard and working out with each other, in reality we missed suffering and pushing past our known limits, we missed being warriors.

We started to argue with each other and our families and we started to become bored with our jobs. One of our teammates began working out at Level-4 CrossFit in Seattle and we all decided to join him. Immediately we were in the best moods and spirits we had been in years. We were tired, we had been challenged and most of all we had been educated by a fellow warrior named Dave Werner. All of us had done CrossFit before but none of us ever bothered to understand the system or the methodology. Most of us modified the workouts and made them heavier, we had poor form and we routinely gaffed off the workouts we didn’t like. Dave sparked a fire in our team and having CrossFit explained to us by an expert and by a person who knew our habits made the methodology to much easier to digest.

Our Awakening

We all started on our own following the CrossFit Main site since CF Seattle was too far for us to attend on a regular basis. We pushed and prodded each other and as the weather got warmer we started meeting on Saturday morning’s in Bellevue Park. The next thing we knew there were guys from other security details and then we grew even more. It was then that Dave and his wife Nancy suggested that we open our own box. Somehow I got nominated to be the first to attend a CF Level-1 Certification with the hope being that all of us would one day attend. I came back with a great understanding of CrossFit and the ability to convey my thoughts and the definitions to my teammates and others who joined us during those torturous Saturday’s in the heat.

Original CFBV

After months of searching we finally settled on the Factoria area of Bellevue. The space we found was 2500sqft all of which were usable with 15 foot ceilings. The owner was hesitant to rent to us since the space was an upstairs unit with wood floors. He asked us to build a floating floor to cushion the weights and in August of 2008 construction began. Our first few months in business were crazy. Luckily we grew slow but February of 2009 we got hit by a whirlwind that has only slowed down once since then.

New CFBV

In June of 2010 we knew we had grown out our current space and the time had come to move. I purchased my partners shares of the business, sold off all my investments and retirement accounts, quit the job I hated and dove in. I figured with as much as I was losing in real estate and stocks I might as well have fun as I lost the rest and maybe just maybe with hard work I could make this thing succeed. Today we have the largest and most equipped CrossFit training facility in the Pacific Northwest. Our facility is over 10,000 sqft with 30 foot ceilings and we have more platforms, ropes, rings, bars, GHD’s, Med Balls than can be fathomed. Since opening we have added 100 new clients and vastly overhauled our staff. We continually strive to improve our program and our coaching. We now have a world renowned staff of current and former World Champion’s, Olympians, Division-1 and Special Operations Athletes. Our future is bright, but we are driven to greater heights by our outstanding clientele, without them we are just a gym. Here at CrossFit Bellevue we are a community and we live by the philosophy that we are only as fast and as strong as our most fragile member and no one will ever be left behind.

This adventure is only possible because of the efforts of many, the hearts of all and the generosity of one. Thank you BV for who you are and all you have done for us.
